Updo for long hair and hairstyles can be used for all kinds of events including formal, wedding, prom, party or holiday events.

My friends at I.C.O.N. BEAUTY LAB in Los Angeles opened their doors and let us film them doing a few SIMPLE and EASY Updos to help you give your clients the look they want for holiday parties!

In part one, Abdon Vargas shows you an Updo made with Influential Styling. With Influential Styling, the stylist looks to the past for inspiration and adds a modern twist or flair to today’s hair fashions. Not only does influential styling allow you to AVOID 3 things that hairdressers RELY on and which consumers HATE, but it also gives you creative freedom when working with new styles.

In part two, expert make-up artist Jasmine Dashtizad explains how to quickly and easily transform your day look into a fabulous evening look. Jasmine’s technique allows you to layer make-up onto your existing make-up in less than 5 minutes.

Stay tuned for part 2 coming soon!

ScissorBoy Bunnies – Strike a pose

14 04 2008

ScissorBoy was at Descend Salon all day for a photoshoot. There were 10 beautiful women models and one ScissorBoy posing for the camera’s. Wow! That was fun. We had 3 makeup artists, an awesome photographer, a team of talented hairstylists from the salon doing their magic. All the women looked amazing. I will most more pictures as I get them from the photographer. Here are a couple of the women and myself sporting our ScissorBoy shirts.

ScissorBoy’s Birthday Party – April 8th

8 04 2008

It was my birthday on Tuesday! Yay! My roommates threw me a party at the ScissorBoy Mansion. It was a good time. We had a friend of the house (an amazing pole dancer), Hannah, come and teach a Pole Dancing class. Wow! That was a great workout. We had 7 students and we all walked away with some moves.

I had invited a bunch of people who couldn’t all make it and most of them have been asking for video clips to see what we did. Here’s a video clip of the final performance that was given by Hannah. It is smooth and sexy and she made it look so effortless.

Word of advise. If you are thinking about learning how to do it make sure you have someone to spot you when you are doing the acrobatic moves! The following clip shows what can happen when you don’t have someone spotting you. Opps. ScissorBoy had a big fall. That hurt.

Scouting Locations

27 01 2008

I went out today to scout for shooting locations for the ScissorBoy Cutting Edge Hair Show. Found a couple of nice places on Waikiki Beach. Wow, it was bright today! It was hard to open my eyes without squinting.

Ulupono Academy Interview

24 01 2008

Interview with Joannie Rossiter, Dean of Education at Ulupono Academy – A Paul Mitchell Partner School

I met with Joannie Rossiter today and did a Spotlight interview with her for the upcoming The Cutting Edge Hair Show Series. She did a kick ass interview. I can’t wait to release this. She shared her story with me and I was impressed to say the least. Not just because of her achievements but because of the quality of person that she is which came through big time in this interview. Thanks Joannie!

ScissorBoy at Hawaii Institute of Hair Design

23 01 2008

ScissorBoy a few promo shots from my scissor Education Class today at Hawaii Institute of Hair Design. I think there were about 30 students total plus a few of the instructors who all made me feel welcome. I think even the instructors got some good value out of the class. Look forward to seeing you next time!

ScissorBoy Talk at Honolulu Community College

22 01 2008

I walked into this school and was immediately impressed with their set up. The two main instructors greeted me right away and ushered me into the classroom. This was one of the best set up schools I’ve taught at. They had a mounted digital projector and screen which was always ready to go. We had a few minor glitches getting the presentation off my computer and into their computer but after about 10 minutes we were ready to rock! The class went for about 90 minutes followed by Q&A and students looking at shears. I got this little clip to remember them by. Thanks Honolulu Community College for a great class! I look forward to doing another ScissorBoy Shear Knowledge Class here again soon!

ScissorBoy at The Paul Brown Institute in Oahu

21 01 2008

ScissorBoy with Mari’a Nelson – School Principal

Today I went down to the Paul Brown Institute and taught a scissor education class. Gave the students my best information on how to take care of their scissors, talked about scissor sharpening and how to choose the best scissors.

ScissorBoy takes over the big island!

20 01 2008

ScissorBoy on the Big Island of Hawaii

After a half day of hard work ScissorBoy had a chance to jump in the ocean. The water was rough and I got pummeled. I learned a new trick of diving under the waves just before they hit you. That helped. But I still got pummeled and ended up with about 1 pound of sand in my hair that took 2 days to get out. Plus an added bonus of sinus irritation.

First thing in the morning I headed back to Waimea to visit Layne and the girls at Graciela’s again. Got a little promo pic while I was there. (below)

Graciela’s Salon in Waimea

My last stop of the day was to visit the lovely ladies at Intrigue Dezign Salon: An Aveda Concept Salon back in Kona. (above) I think I was there for about 90 minutes and I could have easily sayed for the rest of the day. They were a lot of fun.

Is this the Best Burrito Restaurant in the World?

19 01 2008

After searching the world (or at least the US, Canada and Mexico) I have finally had the best burrito ever. If you ever visit the Big Island you have to visit Señor Billy’s about 15 minnutes south of Kona. I sometimes eat 4 burritos a week and have easily been to over a hundred different restaurants. This is by far the best!

Before diving into the burrito I took a 2 hour drive out to meet one of my clients Layne at Graciela’s Hair Salon in Waimea. We have been speaking over the phone since last summer and I’ve sharpened for the salon through the mail and it’s always nice to finally make the connection between the voice over the phone and a face in person.

After making a few stops other salons in town I headed over to Hilo.

The highlight for me in Hilo was connecting with Enid from the local Cosmoprof store. We hung out a talked for a bit then checked out some of the local salons.
